Classic PutDowns Insults with style eBook Mike Blake Reviews
This is simply a great book of Put-Downs.It has a hard cover and well constructed with excellent paper,printing,illustration and different colors for each section.It has 384 pages and each page has 2 put-downs ,except for a few pages that have only one.The only criticism I have is because of certain sections where ,especially silver colored pages tend to obscure the printing because of light reflection.
As to the put-downs;they are excellent,in fact many are the best I've ever come across.They are grouped into 6 sections namely;
POLITICAL BRICKBACKS
HOLLYWOOD SCORN
HAVING A POP
ELEGANT INSULTS
MILITARY MOCKERY
and
SPORTING SLAM DUNKS.
The book was published in 1913 by Arcturus Publishing Limited London.It has about an even mix of put-downs from England and Europe as well as North America..It also has a good mix of older as well as recent put-downs and characters both on the doing as well as the receiving ends.
I'm not sure if there are 2 different editions,Mine is the green cover one with the Marx brother making a put-down about a wonderful evenings,
When you read this book ,you will note that there is an over abundance of liberal against conservative put-downs.This reminds me of when I once asked a fellow from Korea ,why there weren't any good jokes from Korea.He hit the nail on the head with this reply " Because when you live in Korea..nothing's funny".I guess it is the same about being Libertal or Socialist ...nothing's funny.
One real good feature is that with each put-down the both who said the put-down and the one it was directed at is identified.
If you like put-downs ,you'll find this a real gem,even a font of knowledge.For instance;I live in the Toronto Area,where we have the Maple Leafs Hockey team.Everyone asks what's wrong with the Leafs?
Well on page 379 is the answer;
